Why Use the Community Forums

Why use the community forums?

Community forums are a public space that anyone who is a registered member of the site can utilise, without limit.  Registration is simple and a guide to how to do it is available here.  You can de-register at any time, the only reason we ask people to register is to ensure people do not abuse the facility.  You can register under a nickname or any similar name, thus maintaining your anonymity at all times. If you have query around privacy or confidentialilty, please read our policy here.

How do the community forums work?

The community forums operate like a bulletin board in an office or shop - if you have something to say or a question you want answered, you post a message and everyone is free to offer a response.  Our hope is to see a community of parents and professionals emerge here and engage in a positive supportive space so as to learn from each other through the sharing of their experiences and expertise.

You can also contact the full Developing Ability team in private in a confidential service using Private Messaging or PMs.  These PMs are a bit like email except they are unique to this website and they can only be viewed by the person to to whom you have directed the private message, just like email only more secure.

In this way, for example, if you are undertaking the "First Steps in ABA" course, you can search through what others have posted in the relevant forums, or failing this, you can ask one of the team using the private message (PM) service.  Whilst for legal and ethical reasons the team can not engage in consultation around any specific people or cases, we will try to answer any question you have...

Are there any rules to using the community forums?

Just one - respect everyone's right to hold and express an opinion!

In this space everyone has a right to express their opinions, everyone has a right to be heard and everyone has a right to argue for their case... all we ask is that you respect this democratic principle to ensure that these community forums, your community forums, become a valuable and supportive tool for your benefit.

Are there any other benefits?

Yes, over time, the boards will develop into an extremely useful resouce, a kind of online library in which you can search for anything (or anyone!) that you need.

If you are a member of an organisation working in human services, we can offer you a private space on these forums uniquely accessible by your members and the Developing Ability team. This is just one of the benefits of our affiliate and partnership arrangements. If you would like to discuss these options in more detail or trial them with your staff, please contact kieran@developing-ability.com
