Hello

Why is there a need for the data? Surely what has to be done is obvious?

Hi

I think there is an important place for data (evidence) in all programs. Unfortuanately it is not obvious whether progress is being made on many occasions. This means that time and energy of everyone (including the learner) is wasted. This simply does not make sense.

I prefer to see evidence collected that clearly shows that progress is being made. Furthermore, if progress is not being made that the chart or display clearly shows that CHANGES have been made. All too often the wrong approach is used and this runs unchecked.

It makes sense to know if what you are doing is working and if what you are doing is NOT working. It also makes sense ot rely on evdience collected rather than the stories so often used as evidence,

I'd welcome any comments upon this

Hi

At some point we can have a discussion as to the different types of evidence and the different ways we can collect evidence.

My bottom line is that I don't take peoples word for it in regard to progress. I think in this day and age we have an obligation to the person we are supporting to show that we are effective.

Evidence is critical and the use of evidence is right up there in relation to all documents on best practice

Hi

Sorry for taking so long to get back to this. Evidence is necessary to show progress and to make sure we are changing our teaching strategies as and when necessary.

There is no point thinking that we know best and wasting time. Instead listening to the learner by capturing evidence of learning is the way forward.

The trick is to get the balance so that programs don't become all about data collection and paper work with the learner somehow seeming peripheral to this.

Balance is crucial!!!!

We are currently working on an online/DVD module on collecting evidence and will keep the site up to date on its progress.
